Creative Immersion Retreat

This five-day workshop explores the texture, color and inherent traits of rock and stone. Inspired by local land, students will gain a deeper understanding of geological surfaces and the symbolism surrounding rocks and stones.

The workshop offers the opportunity to develop interpretive skills while using watercolor to create a series of studies. The class will work both indoors and out, spend time with a local ecologist to learn about the geology of the region, and visit the Grand Portage National Monument.

Rock is often referenced for grounding or as foundation. Stones are smaller and more easily moved. Both are gems of the earth. Inspired by local land, we will create gems (paintings) of our own.
